books

I had the opportunity to write two books on the subject of photography with one of the leading publishers. Let me briefly introduce both books to you. Published in German and available wherever books are sold.

“Der eigene fotografische Stil”

This book will help you find your own style

The question of one's own style moves all photographers who are beyond their beginnings and shoot regularly. They are looking for ways to express themselves personally in their images and to be recognizable in them. Very few simply do their thing - the majority imitate others, try this and that, ponder over equipment and image processing, and only much later see what is actually obvious: the path to one's own style begins with knowledge about one's own personality, finding one's own subject and making decisions about its photographic implementation.

Steffen Rothammel would like to help you with "The own photographic style" to shorten this long and often expensive way. After an overview of what constitutes style and personality at its core, he introduces you to different ways of working and expressing yourself, using three photographers as examples, and invites you to reflect on yourself and your own photography in the process. And because mastery of the photographic craft and camera is the first prerequisite for realizing one's own pictorial ideas, he explains various motif situations and their technical implementation using his own photos as examples. Equipped with this knowledge, you can then set off in search of your own subject and expression - and find your own photographic style.

“Das Gefühl ist der Auslöser”

Empathy is the key to expressive images

Train your "soft skills" instead of just working on the technique. Learn to better master shooting situations with people and thus take better pictures. Let us show you the way to your own photographic expression and style.

The key to your own photographic expression and style lies not in your handling of the camera, but in your ability toempathize with shooting situations and move appropriately within them. Empathy allows you to access the people you portray. And your awareness of how you appear and are perceived allows you to become a part of the scene you are photographing. Up close and with due time, this creates moments like those captured by photographer Steffen Rothammel on his travels in expressive, touching images.

With this book, Steffen Rothammel helps you to work on your own photographic expression and style. He shows you how, thanks to preparation, you can photograph more consciously and thereby train and use your intuition. Learn with this book as well to train your empathy, self-awareness, patience and perseverance. Learn how to move in the everyday life of the people on location without leaving traces, to find moments for gripping pictures and to tell the stories of the people with them.
